Solar PV Price Increase
Important Update for Customers!!
We would like to make all of our customers aware of a confirmed Solar PV Price Increase that is expected to affect the cost and availability of solar PV systems and battery storage products over the coming months.
These changes are happening across the global renewable energy industry and are outside the control of solar installation companies. Understanding the reasons behind this Solar PV Price Increase can help you make an informed decision if you’re considering investing in solar energy.
Why Is There a Solar PV Price Increase?
From 1 April, the Chinese government will introduce significant changes to its export tax rebate scheme for key renewable energy products. These changes have been confirmed by leading industry publications, including PV Tech and pv magazine International, and are expected to contribute to a worldwide Solar PV Price Increase.
The confirmed changes include:
- Solar PV panels: the existing 9% export tax rebate will be removed.
- Inverters: the existing 9% export tax rebate will also be removed.
- Battery storage systems: the export rebate will reduce from 9% to 6% from 1 April, before being completely removed from 1 January 2027.
These changes mean manufacturers will no longer receive the same export incentives they previously benefited from, which is expected to increase manufacturing and export costs across the industry.
Rising Manufacturing Costs Are Also Contributing
The Solar PV Price Increase isn’t only being driven by changes in export rebates. Manufacturers are also facing higher production costs due to increases in the price of raw materials.
One of the biggest contributors is silver paste, an essential component used in the production of solar PV modules. As the cost of this material continues to rise, manufacturers have already started increasing the price of solar panels.
These price increases are now being felt throughout the global supply chain, including on stock that is already being held within the European Union. This means the effects of the Solar PV Price Increase are already beginning to reach the Irish market.
What This Means for Customers in Ireland
Irish distributors have confirmed that once their existing stock has been sold, the new pricing will apply to all future orders. They have also advised that pricing is now subject to stock availability, meaning equipment costs may continue to change depending on supply and demand.
For homeowners and businesses considering solar, this Solar PV Price Increase means that delaying a decision could result in higher system costs later in the year.
