Client / Company:

Automotive Team

Project Location:

Sandyford, Co. Dublin

Project Overview:

Veep Energy successfully delivered a 100 kW commercial Solar PV system for Automotive Team Limited at their Sandyford facility in May 2023.

The project was designed to significantly reduce grid dependency for a high-energy automotive logistics operation while ensuring system reliability, monitoring transparency, and long-term performance.

Client Background

Automotive Team Limited was founded in 2003/2004 by Gordon Goodwin and is based in Sandyford, Dublin.

The company provides specialised, integrated support services to automotive manufacturers operating in Ireland. From their 3,000+ m² facility, Automotive Team offers:

  • Vehicle logistics and handling

  • Secure storage for 200+ vehicles

  • Event management for automotive product launches

The facility operates year-round with consistent daytime electricity demand — making it highly suitable for on-site solar generation.

System Design & Technical Specification

The system was engineered to maximise on-site consumption while maintaining redundancy and granular performance monitoring.

Installed capacity:

  • 100 kW Solar PV array

Key equipment:

  • 2 × 50 kW SolarEdge commercial inverters

  • 246 high-efficiency PV panels

  • 123 SolarEdge power optimisers

Design approach:

  • Optimiser-level monitoring for enhanced fault detection

  • Redundancy through dual inverter architecture

  • Optimised layout to suit the warehouse roof profile and load pattern

Performance & Results

Since commissioning, the Solar PV system has delivered strong and consistent results:

  • Total energy generated: 219 MWh

  • On-site self-sufficiency achieved: ~40%

  • Significant reduction in grid electricity consumption

  • Long-term protection against rising electricity prices

The system now supplies a substantial portion of Automotive Team’s operational energy needs, particularly during peak business hours.

Compliance & Safety

As with all Veep Energy commercial installations, the project was delivered in full compliance with:

  • Irish electrical regulations

  • Safe Electric requirements

  • Manufacturer design and commissioning standards

All works were completed by Veep Energy’s in-house engineering and installation team, ensuring quality control from design through to commissioning.

Outcome

The Automotive Team Solar PV installation demonstrates how commercial and industrial facilities with steady daytime loads can achieve meaningful energy independence, cost savings, and carbon reduction through a properly engineered solar solution.

This project continues to operate reliably and serves as a strong reference installation for logistics, warehousing, and automotive sector clients.

🌱 CO₂ SAVINGS – AUTOMOTIVE TEAM (100 kW SOLAR PV)

Assumptions (aligned with WebPrint for consistency)

  • System size: 100 kW

  • Typical Irish commercial yield: ~950–1,000 kWh / kWp / year

  • Conservative annual generation used: 95 MWh / year

  • Ireland grid emissions factor: 0.27 tCO₂ / MWh

Annual CO₂ avoided

95 MWh × 0.27 = ~25.7 tonnes of CO₂ per year
