JAGUAR LAND ROVER SANDYFORD – MULTI-PHASE SOLAR PV PROJECT (Spirit Motor Group / OHM Motor Group)

Project Overview

Veep Energy delivered a multi-phase commercial Solar PV solution for the Jaguar Land Rover Sandyford dealership, operated by Spirit Motor Group, part of the OHM Motor Group.

The project was delivered under a single client and ESB/DNO connection, with phased installations across two operational buildings:

  • Main Showroom on Arena Road

  • Vehicle Preparation Centre

Together, the systems were designed to significantly reduce grid dependency, align with premium brand ESG expectations, and deliver long-term energy resilience.

Client & Site Background

Spirit Motor Group Sandyford is a premier authorised Jaguar and Land Rover retailer, established in 2004 and located on Arena Road, Sandyford Business District, Dublin.

The site provides:

  • New vehicle sales

  • Approved Used vehicles

  • Aftersales and service operations

  • Manufacturer-trained technician support

The combination of showroom, workshop, and preparation facilities creates sustained daytime electricity demand — well suited to on-site solar generation.

Phase 1 – Showroom Solar PV Installation

Installation date: January 2024
Location: JLR Showroom, Arena Road

System specification

  • 107 kW Solar PV array

  • 1 × 100 kW SolarEdge commercial inverter

  • 256 high-efficiency PV modules

  • 128 SolarEdge power optimisers

Performance

  • 181 MWh generated to date

  • ~40% reduction in grid electricity consumption

  • Solar PV aligned with showroom and operational load profile

Phase 2 – Vehicle Preparation Centre Solar PV Installation

Installation date: 19 April 2024
Location: JLR Preparation Centre

System specification

  • 100 kW Solar PV array

  • 1 × 66.6 kW SolarEdge Synergy commercial inverter

  • 204 PV modules

  • 102 SolarEdge commercial power optimisers

Performance

  • 126 MWh generated in 20 months

  • ~89% of site electricity demand offset

  • Near-total elimination of grid dependency for the preparation facility

Technology & Design Approach

Both phases were delivered using the SolarEdge commercial platform, providing:

  • Module-level monitoring for precise performance tracking

  • Higher energy yield compared to traditional string inverter systems

  • Reduced operation and maintenance costs through targeted fault detection

  • Enhanced safety architecture suitable for automotive retail environments

ESG & Carbon Impact

Across both phases, the JLR Sandyford Solar PV installation delivers:

  • ~45 tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year

  • Direct Scope 2 emissions reduction

  • Verifiable ESG performance data for corporate sustainability reporting

  • Reduced exposure to long-term energy price volatility

Outcome

This project demonstrates how premium automotive retail and operational facilities can achieve substantial energy cost reduction and ESG impact through phased, well-engineered Solar PV deployment — without disrupting live operations.

🌱 CO₂ SAVINGS – JLR SANDYFORD (COMBINED PROJECT)

We’ll keep the same ESG methodology you’ve now used consistently:

  • Ireland grid factor: ~0.27 tCO₂ / MWh

Phase 1 – Showroom (107 kW)

  • Generation to date: 181 MWh (≈ 2 years)

  • Average annual generation: ~90.5 MWh / year

  • Annual CO₂ avoided:
    90.5 × 0.27 ≈ 24.4 tCO₂ / year

Phase 2 – Prep Centre (100 kW)

  • Generation: 126 MWh in 20 months

  • Annualised generation: ~75.6 MWh / year

  • Annual CO₂ avoided:
    75.6 × 0.27 ≈ 20.4 tCO₂ / year

✅ Combined Annual Impact (Reporting-Ready)

  • ~44–45 tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year

  • Direct Scope 2 emissions reduction

  • Strong ESG narrative across retail + operational facilities
