65kW
Askeaton Credit Union
Askeaton, Co. Limerick
Project Overview
Veep Energy delivered a commercial Solar PV installation for Askeaton Credit Union in Summer 2023.
The system was designed to reduce grid electricity dependency, improve long-term energy cost certainty, and visibly demonstrate the Credit Union’s commitment to sustainability and community leadership, while integrating seamlessly with daily branch operations.
Client & Site Background
Askeaton Credit Union provides essential financial services to its local community from its branch in Askeaton, County Limerick.
The building includes:
Public lobby and member service areas
Office and administrative functions
IT and security systems requiring continuous power
This operational profile creates consistent daytime electricity demand, making the site well suited to on-site Solar PV generation.
Solar PV System Design & Specification
Installation date: Summer 2023
Location: Askeaton Credit Union Branch, Co. Limerick
System specification
148 × Jollywood glass-to-glass bifacial (N-Type) 410 Wp monocrystalline PV modules
(SEAI Triple-E rated, 30-year warranty)2 × 20 kW SolarEdge smart three-phase grid-tied inverters
(12-year warranty)74 × SolarEdge P900 power optimisers with arc-fault protection
(25-year warranty)1 × SolarEdge import / export meter
1 × 32-inch SolarFox solar display screen installed in the public lobby
Design approach
High-efficiency bifacial modules for improved yield
Optimiser-level monitoring for performance transparency
Enhanced electrical and fire safety via SolarEdge architecture
Public-facing solar display to promote sustainability awareness
Performance & Energy Results
Based on lifetime data from the SolarEdge monitoring platform, the system has delivered strong and reliable performance:
Total energy produced: 87.1 MWh
Specific yield: 1.45 kWh/kWp
Average power factor: 97.94%
Site energy mix
Total site consumption: 142 MWh
Solar energy consumed on-site: 87.1 MWh
Solar self-consumption: ~61%
Grid electricity reduction: ~39%
The Solar PV system now supplies a significant portion of the branch’s electricity demand during operating hours.
Technology & Design Approach
The project was delivered using the SolarEdge commercial platform, providing:
Module-level monitoring for precise performance tracking
Improved energy yield compared to traditional string inverter systems
Reduced operation and maintenance costs through targeted fault detection
Enhanced safety, including arc-fault protection and rapid shutdown capability
The inclusion of a SolarFox display screen allows members and staff to view real-time solar production, reinforcing transparency and sustainability messaging.
ESG & Carbon Impact
Using Ireland’s grid emissions factor (~0.27 tCO₂ per MWh):
Estimated annual solar generation: ~43–45 MWh
Estimated CO₂ avoided: ~12 tonnes of CO₂ per year
Direct Scope 2 emissions reduction
Verifiable performance data suitable for ESG, sustainability, and community reporting
Compliance & Delivery
The installation was delivered by Veep Energy’s in-house engineering and installation team and completed in full compliance with:
Irish electrical regulations
Safe Electric certification requirements
Manufacturer installation and commissioning standards
Outcome
This project demonstrates how credit unions and community financial institutions can reduce operating costs, improve environmental performance, and visibly demonstrate sustainability leadership through properly engineered commercial Solar PV systems.
