Central Technology Supplies Powers Ahead with Solar Energy

Veep Energy Delivers a High-Performance 11kWp Commercial Solar Installation

At Veep Energy, we believe that every business should have the opportunity to reduce energy costs, improve sustainability, and take greater control over its electricity usage. Our recent commercial solar installation for Central Technology Supplies is an excellent example of how businesses can benefit from a professionally designed solar PV system.

This turn-key solar project was carefully planned, installed, and commissioned by our experienced team, providing Central Technology Supplies with a reliable renewable energy solution that will deliver savings and environmental benefits for many years to come.

Project Overview

For this installation, Veep Energy designed and installed an 11kWp rooftop solar PV system tailored to meet the building’s daytime electricity demands.

The completed system is expected to generate approximately 9,900kWh of clean electricity every year, significantly reducing the company’s reliance on grid-supplied power and helping to lower ongoing operating costs.

Key System Statistics

  • System Size: 11kWp
  • Annual Energy Generation: Approx. 9,900kWh
  • Annual CO₂ Offset: 10.58 tonnes
  • Estimated Annual Savings: €2,287
  • Expected Savings Over 25 Years: €57,273
  • Estimated Return on Investment: 3.88 Years
  • Expected Energy Export: 40% (without battery storage)

These impressive figures demonstrate how solar energy can quickly become one of the smartest long-term investments a business can make.

The Equipment Installed

To ensure maximum performance and reliability, we selected premium solar technology from trusted industry-leading manufacturers.

The installation included:

  • 26 Denim Glass-to-Glass High Power 410W Mono Crystalline Solar Panels
  • 1 SolarEdge 10kW Three-Phase Grid-Tied Inverter
  • 26 SolarEdge S440 Power Optimisers
  • 1 SolarEdge Modbus Import/Export Meter
  • Roof mounting systems and structural supports
  • Full electrical installation and commissioning
  • Certification and compliance testing

Each component plays an important role in helping the system operate efficiently while allowing the customer to monitor production and performance.

From Planning to Completion: The Installation Process

At Veep Energy, our service extends far beyond simply installing solar panels.

This project was delivered as a complete turn-key solution, allowing Central Technology Supplies to focus on running their business while we handled every stage of the process.

Site Assessment and System Design

Every successful solar project begins with a detailed site survey. Our team assessed the available roof space, electrical infrastructure, and energy consumption patterns to determine the most suitable system size and layout.

The goal was clear: maximise energy production while ensuring safe installation and long-term reliability.

Permissions and Grid Applications

Commercial solar projects often require various approvals and utility coordination.

For Central Technology Supplies, Veep Energy managed:

  • Grid connection applications
  • Network permissions
  • Connection handling with ESB Networks
  • G10 relay installation and commissioning (where applicable)
  • ESBN witness testing (if required)
  • Planning permission management (if applicable)

Handling these technical requirements on behalf of our customers helps simplify the entire process and removes unnecessary stress.

Rooftop Installation

Once approvals were in place, our installation team began work on the rooftop system.

The 26 high-performance solar panels were securely mounted using industry-approved roof fixing systems designed to withstand Ireland’s varying weather conditions. Careful positioning of each panel ensures optimal exposure to sunlight throughout the year.

The installation was carried out with minimal disruption to business operations, ensuring Central Technology Supplies could continue their day-to-day activities while the project progressed.

Power Optimisation Technology

A major advantage of this system is the inclusion of SolarEdge S440 Power Optimisers on every solar panel.

Rather than allowing one underperforming panel to affect the rest of the system, these optimisers allow each panel to operate independently. This helps maximise energy production and improve overall efficiency, even if certain panels experience temporary shading or varying conditions.

Inverter and Monitoring Setup

The SolarEdge 10kW three-phase inverter acts as the heart of the solar PV system.

The inverter converts the electricity generated by the solar panels into usable power for the building. Combined with the SolarEdge monitoring technology and Modbus meter, Central Technology Supplies can track energy generation, electricity usage, and exported power in real time.

This gives the customer full visibility of how much energy the system is producing and how much they’re saving.

Testing and Commissioning

Before the system was officially handed over, our engineers completed comprehensive testing and commissioning procedures.

This included:

  • Electrical safety testing
  • Performance verification
  • System configuration
  • Monitoring setup
  • Certification and compliance checks

Only once every component met our strict standards was the installation fully energised and connected.

The Long-Term Benefits

The benefits of this solar installation extend far beyond immediate energy savings.

By generating approximately 9,900kWh of renewable electricity annually, Central Technology Supplies will significantly reduce its carbon footprint while protecting itself against future energy price increases.

The system is expected to offset approximately 10.58 tonnes of CO₂ every year, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Financially, the project delivers a strong return, with an estimated payback period of just 3.88 years and projected savings exceeding €57,000 over 25 years.

How Does Solar Export To The Grid?

Solar export to the grid happens when your solar panels generate more electricity than the building is using at that moment.

Here’s a simple explanation:

Step 1: Solar Panels Generate Electricity

During daylight hours, the solar panels on the roof produce electricity from sunlight.

Step 2: Your Building Uses Solar Power First

The electricity generated is automatically sent to the building and used by equipment, lighting, computers, machinery, and other electrical loads before any power is taken from the grid.

For example:

  • Solar production: 20kW
  • Building demand: 12kW

The building uses 12kW directly from the solar system.

Step 3: Excess Energy Is Exported

The remaining electricity is not wasted.

Using the example above:

  • Solar generated: 20kW
  • Building used: 12kW
  • Excess available: 8kW

That extra 8kW is automatically exported through the electricity meter and sent back to the national grid.

Step 4: The Export Meter Records It

The SolarEdge Modbus Import/Export Meter installed with the system records:

  • Energy generated
  • Energy consumed on-site
  • Energy imported from the grid
  • Energy exported to the grid

This allows the customer to monitor exactly how much electricity is being sent back to the network.

Why Does Central Technology Supplies Export 40%?

In the proposal, the system is expected to export approximately 40% of its annual generation.

This typically happens because:

  • The solar system generates the most electricity in the middle of the day.
  • The building’s electricity demand varies throughout the day.
  • At certain times, the solar system produces more power than the building needs.

For the Central Technology Supplies installation:

  • Annual generation: 9,900kWh
  • Expected export: 40%
  • Approximate exported energy: 3,960kWh per year
  • Approximate self-consumed energy: 5,940kWh per year

What Are the Benefits of Exporting?

Exporting excess electricity can:

–  Reduce strain on the national grid by adding renewable energy

 – Potentially earn export payments where available

 – Improve the sustainability credentials of the business

 – Ensure no solar energy goes to waste
