Turning Rooftop Space into Long-Term Savings with Solar PV

As energy costs continue to challenge Irish businesses, commercial solar is becoming one of the most effective ways to reduce operating expenses while improving sustainability credentials. One recent example is the installation of a 17.6kWp rooftop solar PV system at 64 Wine in Glasthule, Co. Dublin.

Designed to maximise on-site generation and reduce dependence on grid electricity, this bespoke solar solution is expected to provide significant financial and environmental benefits for decades to come.

Project Overview

Located in the heart of Glasthule, 64 Wine sought a renewable energy solution that would help offset rising electricity costs while supporting the business’s sustainability goals.

The completed installation comprises a 17.6kWp rooftop solar PV system featuring 43 high-efficiency 410W Denim High Power monocrystalline solar panels, paired with SolarEdge inverter technology and module-level optimisation for enhanced system performance.

The project included full design, installation, grid connection management, certification, and commissioning by the VEEP Energy team.

System Performance at a Glance

Solar PV System Size: 17.6kWp

Predicted Annual Energy Yield: 15,840 kWh

Estimated Annual Savings: €4,533

Total Estimated Savings Over 25 Years: €113,128

Expected Export Rate: 20%

Carbon Offset Per Year: 6,211 kg CO₂

Estimated Investment Payback Period: 3.5 Years

The system is expected to generate approximately 15,840kWh of clean electricity annually, directly contributing to the building’s daytime power requirements and reducing electricity imported from the grid.

Significant Environmental Impact

Sustainability was a key driver behind the project.

With a projected annual carbon reduction of 6,211kg of CO₂, the installation delivers meaningful environmental benefits from day one. Over the lifespan of the system, this equates to more than 155 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided, helping the business significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

For commercial organisations looking to improve ESG performance or meet sustainability targets, solar PV remains one of the most tangible and measurable investments available.

Advanced SolarEdge Technology

To maximise energy generation and system monitoring, the installation features SolarEdge technology throughout.

The system includes:

  • 43 x SolarEdge Power Optimisers with SafeDC™ technology
  • 1 x 15kW SolarEdge Smart Inverter
  • SolarEdge Smart Import/Export Meter (250A)

Unlike conventional string inverter systems, SolarEdge power optimisers allow each panel to operate independently, helping to minimise losses from shading, panel mismatch, or varying roof conditions.

This delivers improved energy yield, enhanced safety, and detailed module-level monitoring that allows system performance to be tracked in real time.

Installation Highlights

The rooftop installation was carefully designed to make optimal use of the available roof space while accommodating existing rooftop equipment and services. The finished array integrates neatly with the property and provides extensive solar coverage across the roof area.

The completed system can be seen below, showing the substantial solar array installed across the available rooftop space.

The installation also included professional cable management and roof-mounted infrastructure to ensure long-term reliability and compliance with industry standards.

Complete Turnkey Delivery

As part of the project, VEEP Energy provided a fully managed solution including:

  • System design and engineering
  • Roof mounting equipment
  • Electrical materials and installation
  • System commissioning and certification
  • ESB Networks grid connection management
  • Planning permission management
  • G10 relay installation and ESBN witness testing (where applicable)

The project is further backed by:

  • 5-year labour warranty
  • 2-year comprehensive operations and maintenance warranty
  • Optional extended O&M contracts available from Year 2 onwards

A Strong Business Case for Commercial Solar64 wines saving money with panels

With annual savings of approximately €4,533 and an estimated payback period of just 3.5 years, this installation demonstrates the strong financial case for commercial solar PV in Ireland.

After the system has paid for itself, the business will continue benefiting from decades of low-cost renewable electricity, with projected lifetime savings exceeding €113,000.

As electricity prices remain volatile, generating power on-site provides businesses with greater cost certainty and long-term protection against future energy price increases.
